Knoxville Cross Country held its season celebration on Friday and awards were given out in five categories. On the girls side, team captains were designated to Alisson Crossett and Hannah Wallace. Alissa Van Klootwyk, who qualified for the state meet a few weeks ago was named the number one runner. Other awards handed out were, Amy Turner desgined the Heart of the Team, Emily Klootwyk for have in the most team spirit, and Courtney Hughes as the Most Improved. On the boys side the team captains were designated Timothy Shepherd and Wick Cunningham. The number one runner was Jamie VanderVeer, other awards were Erik Ryan as the Heart of the Team, Alex Edwards with the Team Spirit Award, and Ben Reichert as the Most Improved. Coach Mike Moats stated the girls overall win/loss record was 66-30 and they never placed lower than fourth the five meets of the season. The boys were a mind-boggling 107-5 for the season, their lowest placing was third at the Pella Invitational early in the season. The boys ended the year as class 3A state runners-up.
