Knoxville Middle School Students are teaming up in their character education program groups to raise money for the less fortunate this fall. Throughout the month, students are bringing in non-perishable food items or monetary donations to school and at the end of the food drive on November 23rd the donations will be added to the KNIA/KRLS Big Red Radio food drive and be distributed to area food shelves.

The students are competing in their SPRINTS groups which Assistant Principal Linda Abbott says stands for Support, Positive Values, Responsibility, Identity, Neighborhood Teamwork and Service. Abbott says each month, the students are taught different lessons that focus on topics in one of these areas. She says the food drive helps bring an understanding of the need for service closer to home as students know the donations are going directly to a local food pantry. Abbott says this supports the students in learning compassion and accepting responsibility for helping when and where ever they are able.

Community members who would like to donate to the food drive are welcome to drop off non-perishable food items at the Knoxville Middle School office.
