Iowa Republican Senator Paul McKinley of Chariton was reelected to serve as the Senate Republican Leader for the upcoming 84th Iowa General Assembly. Republicans now hold 24 of the 50 seats in the Iowa Senate, after picking up six previously held Democratic seats in last Tuesday’s general election, which is believed to be the largest number in modern state history. McKinley says he is truly honored and humbled to again be selected by his fellow colleagues to serve as the Republican Leader of the Iowa Senate. He says the significantly larger Senate Republican caucus is eagerly looking forward to working with Governor-elect Terry Brandstad, Lieutenant Governor-elect Kim Reynolds and Speaker-elect Kraig Paulsen to move the state forward by focusing on an ambitious agenda. The first day of the 84th Iowa General Assembly will be Monday January 10, 2011.
