The Pella Christian volleyball team is just a day away from opening play in their fourth consecutive trip to the Class 2-A State Volleyball Tournament. Their opponent is Lake Mills, which advanced out of their region by grinding out a tough, five-game win over Sumner-Fredricksburg. The Lady Eagles, meanwhile, enter the match having beaten Bondurant-Farrar 3-1 last Tuesday in Carlisle.

Pella Christian Head Coach John Evenhouse says the atmosphere at the State Tournament is unlike any other venue, and hopes his team will have an edge over their opponent in how to handle the noise.

“Lake Mills hasn’t been there [the State Tournament] for a while, so we’re hoping that this will be a little bit of a tough one for them,” says Evenhouse. “It’s always hard to say what’s going to happen when you get to State. Sometimes you get a little bit nervous, sometimes the kids handle it well, and we’ve been through enough tough games that we’re hoping we can handle it well while we’re there.”

Tickets to Thursday’s match are on sale at the Pella Christian High School office for $8, and can be purchased between 8:00 am and 3:00 pm today and tomorrow. Pella Christian’s match against Lake Mills at the Class 2-A State Volleyball Tournament will begin at 7:30 pm Thursday night at the U.S. Cellular Center in Cedar Rapids.
