After an exciting comeback victory in the first round of the playoffs, the Pella Christian football team is back on its home turf tonight for the second round of the Class 2-A state playoffs. Coming in to face the Eagles is North Polk; a team that defeated PCM last Wednesday to advance. Pella Christian Head Football Coach Rich Kacmarynski says the Comets have a strong offense that likes to run the football, but has steadily improved as a passing team as well.

“Their tailback’s a 1000-yard rusher, so we’ve definitely got to stop or slow him. They went to a little bit of the spread [offense] late last year, and their quarterback is back and has been developing as a thrower,” said Kacmarynski. “Historically they’ve been a strong rush team, but I think in the last two years they’ve worked hard to develop their throwing game as well, so they’re actually a pretty balanced club.”

Kacmarynski adds that he thinks his squad matches up well with North Polk, and thinks the Eagles’ special teams play should give them an advantage in the ball game. Pella Christian’s second round playoff game will be broadcast on 92.1 fm KRLS, with Eric Gotschall and Nate Van Wyk there for the call. Coverage begins at 6:30 p.m. tonight, with kickoff set for 7:00 p.m. at Pella Christian High School.
