Pella High sent quite a statement last night scoring early and often on their way to a commanding 56-0 win over ADM in the second round of the Class 3A football playoffs.

After ADM drove into Pella territory twice early on, Pella stuffed them on fourth down both times. Following the second stop, Pella drove down the field and Spencer Boeyink scored on a 38 yard run to put the Little Dutch ahead 7-0 with 7:11 remaining in the first quarter. Pella struck again just :52 later when Chris Bandstra intercepted a pass and returned it 15 yards for a touchdown putting the Little Dutch on top 14-0 and from there it was all Pella as the Little Dutch built up a 28-0 lead after one quarter and eventually a 49-0 halftime lead. The Little Dutch defense forced eight ADM turnovers in the first half including three interceptions, a fumble recovery and four turnovers on downs, and added one more interception in the second half.

With a commanding lead and running clock to start the second half, coach Jay Mckinstrey went to his bench, resting his starters, and played the second and third units the entire second half. The second unit maintained the shutout and managed one more score in the fourth quarter when backup quarterback Josh Dewaard broke loose on a 67 yard run down to the ADM five yard line, then a couple plays later scored on a one yard run.

Sam Davis pulled the tri fecta with three touchdowns in the first half on runs of eight, four and two yards, Alan Pfadenhauer scored on a two yard run, and Teag Klyn connected with Josh Pringle on an eight yard pass in addition to Bandstra and Boeyink’s scores. In all Pella totaled 444 yards offense including 369 on the ground while holding ADM to 181 total yards, but perhaps the most amazing stat was that they held ADM, who had passed for over 2300 yards on the season, to only 10 yards through the air.

Pella improved to 11-0 on the season and will get yet another home game when they host Carlisle in the Class 3A Quarterfinals Monday night, after Carlisle beat Norwalk last night 35-17. A win will earn Pella their third straight trip to the Uni Dome.
