The Pella volleyball team begins its push for postseason success tonight in Cedar Rapids, as the Lady Dutch begin play in the opening round of the Class 3-A State Volleyball Tournament. Pella’s opponent is Sioux City Bishop Heelan, which advanced out of their region by sweeping MOC-Floyd Valley in 3 games. The Lady Dutch, meanwhile, enter tonight’s contest having beaten Winterset 3-1 last Tuesday in Knoxville.

Pella Head Coach Bob Fessler says his team will have their work cut out for them against the Crusaders’ talented offense.

“Sioux City Heelan is very solid. They have several All-State players, including a wonderful, offensive-minded setter who is left-handed, and quite honestly is a lot like our setter in the fact that she will attack on the second ball to put pressure on our defense,” says Fessler. “They [Heelan] also have an All-State middle hitter who is about 6’1” or 6’2” that is very athletic, so she will pose a few problems for us as well.”

Tickets to tonight’s match remain on sale at the Pella High School office for $8. There are also still seats available on a pep bus for students and adults that will go to tonight’s game. The cost to ride the bus is an additional $6 on top of the cost of a ticket to the match, and must be registered for by 1:00 pm this afternoon – also at the Pella High School office.

Pella’s match against Sioux City Bishop Heelan at the Class 3-A State Volleyball Tournament will be broadcast live on 92.1 fm KRLS with Jamie Brockman and Lisa Vande Lune providing the call. Opening serve is scheduled for 6:00 pm tonight at the U.S. Cellular Center in Cedar Rapids.
