When preparing food for your loved ones this holiday season there are a few tips that are important to follow to prevent food borne illness. Registered Nurse Judi Van Hulzen with Marion County Public Health says there are several types of food borne illness out there such as salmonella and e coli and the majority of them can be prevented by simple things such as thoroughly washing your hands several times throughout the day, avoid cross contamination – especially with poultry, make sure to cook everything thoroughly and do not leave food sitting out for more than two hours.

Those who experience food borne illness are urged to contact their doctor immediately to find out how to treat it.
