A second public meeting with veterans advocate Bob Krause was held in Knoxville last night to further discuss his plan for a Veterans National Recovery Center on the local VA campus. Around 30 people attended the event and while there were some supporters, others showed skepticism about the execution of the plan.

A public hearing will be held tonight to discuss the proposed Extended Use Lease of the Knoxville VA campus. The Department of Veterans Affairs wishes to enter into a long term lease of up to 75 years for the approximately 163 acres of underutilized land in Knoxville. They are looking for development and operation of a transitional or permanent housing facility with priority placement for Veterans experiencing homelessness or at risk of being homeless. However, other development of the property may be considered including mixed use, or other uses compatible with the VA’s mission and operations. In addition, the VA states that the Community Based Outpatient Clinic that is currently being operated out of one building on the campus will be relocated to another site in Knoxville in 2011. The hearing will take place at 7pm in building 173 on the Knoxville VA campus and the public is welcome to attend.
