The History of Veterans Day

Every year on this date, Americans pay respect to those who fought for our country on what has come to be known as Veterans Day. In 1938, November 11th became a national holiday known as Armistice Day, something that Woodrow Wilson proclaimed in 1919. On June 1, 1954, Congress changed the name of the holiday from Armistice Day to Veterans day. November 11th is the anniversary of the day that the Germans signed the Armistice that ended all major hostilities of World War I. The signing came on the 11th hour, of the 11 day, of the 11th month of 1918.
