Central College’s Demarco Turner is the Iowa Conference men’s basketball player of the week. Turner, a 5-foot-10 guard, came off the bench to score 44 points in two games as Central surprised Loras College on the road last Wednesday, and defeated Wartburg College at Pella Saturday.

Against Wartburg, Turner hit 10 of 10 free throws in the final 1:47 to preserve the win. That tied the school single-game free throw percentage mark.

Through eight games Turner is Central’s top scorer, averaging 17.3 points with 1.9 assists and 1.9 rebounds. He also set a school mark for most 3-point baskets in a game without a miss in Monday’s 107-52 rout of Faith Baptist, going 6-for-6. That topped the mark of five set by Kevin Carlson in 1996.
