The Pella City Council approved a contract this week to Water’s Edge out of Lenexa, Kansas to oversee construction projects at the Pella Aquatic Center’s Indoor Pool. The $17,500 dollar contract includes relocating the diving board for safety reasons, improving electrical bonding and upgrading the main filter in the pool. Pella City Administrator Mike Nardini says he expects bids on the projects to begin in February and they expect the total cost to be around $167,000, something that they plan on using the local option sales tax for. Nardini adds that they will have to close the indoor pool for approximately one week during the bonding repair and diving board relocation, which is scheduled to take place in March. The city hopes to complete the filter repair project during the summer so residents will be able to use the outdoor pool during the closure of the indoor facility.
