The Knoxville City Council will meet in special session this evening. The main item on the agenda is discussion about a resolution calling for a referendum in relation to the local option sales tax.

Knoxville currently has a local option sales tax that will be in affect until December of 2012, however City Manager Dick Schrad says there has been an effort in Marion County to get all jurisdictions to have their elections the same year, rather than over a three year period.

Pella and Pleasantville’s local option sales tax will expire in December of 2011, therefore they need to hold an election next year and the decision on whether or not Knoxville will join them must be made by Friday.

The meeting will take place at 5pm in the council chambers of the Knoxville City Hall.
