Shortly before 6:00 yesterday morning the Marion County dispatch center received word of an explosion in the 300 block of South Godfrey Lane in Knoxville. The Knoxville Fire and Rescue Department, Knoxville Rural Fire Department, Knoxville Police Department and Marion County Sheriff’s Office arrived on scene shortly after to what was then a fully engulfed house fire. A neighbor on the scene tells KNIA/KRLS news they heard the explosion early this morning. The Clay Township and Columbia Fire Departments also responded to the scene with tanker trucks to assist in fighting the blaze as there was no immediate fire hydrant near the home.

According to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office the home was unoccupied at the time of the fire. The cause is unknown at this time.
