The Knoxville School District has been discussing ways to save energy costs for months now and as the projects move forward there may be funds available to help make the necessary improvements. Superintendent Dr. Randy Flack says the district is seeking a $360,000 Iowa Demonstration Construction Grant for the nearly $1.4 million improvements.

The funds come from the federal government who awards the money to the state to be used for various construction projects. In addition, the board also approved an application for a fire safety grant in the amount of $15,000 to make improvements to the alarm and smoke detector system at the administration building and gymnasium.

Dr. Flack says the district should find out in March whether or not the application was accepted.
