Local High School Teachers Stress the Importance of Being Involved in Music

Several studies show that music education can be beneficial in a variety of ways such as improving early development, improving concentration and stress release.

Knoxville High School Choir Director Jackie Duffy says without the creative outlet of music, kids don’t understand how to attack problems with a creative mind.

Knoxville High School Band Director Ross Leeper says there is so much evidence that involvement in music is enhances cognitive development and those who are involved score better on standardized tests and college entrance exams.

Pella High School Band Director Dick Redman agrees and says music is important because it allows kids to express themselves. He says music is part of our culture and it’s very important for people to understand the our culture and that of other areas as well.
