The Prairie City Monroe Girls basketball team flexed their defensive muscles Tuesday night as they improved their record to 3-1 with a 41-20 non-conference win over the Defenders of Grand View Park Baptist.

Both teams’ offenses struggled in the early going with the first quarter ending in a 4-4 tie. Midway through the second period trailing by a 10-7 count, PCM asserted themselves on both ends of the floor embarking on an 18-2 run that would span the rest of the first half and most of the third quarter. The Mustang defense was the main catalyst behind the run forcing the Defenders into 27 turnovers on the night. Jordan Wood was a force underneath for the Mustangs, Wood entered the game averaging a double double and led all scorers with 15 points, Stephanie Hayden had nine points for the Mustangs from her guard position. Prairie City Monroe will next be in action when they host Knoxville on Thursday night.
