An accident on Highway 5/92 approximately 1 mile east of the Pleasantville Y involving a John Deere tractor and two sports utility vehicles sent two individuals to the hospital yesterday afternoon. The accident happened shortly after 4pm Friday and had eastbound traffic on the highway backed up for some time until one lane was cleared.

According to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office a John Deere tractor driven by William Woodside of rural Pleasantville was traveling east on highway 5 and 92 when a sports utility vehicle operated by Michael Dirks of Huxley, Iowa rear ended it. The collision knocked Woodside off the tractor, which then continued to drive in a large circle around the scene several times until it struck another sports utility vehicle that stopped to help Woodside. A bystander at the scene then turned off the tractor. Both Woodside and Dirks were transported to the hospital to be treated for injuries.

The Marion County Sheriff’s Office, Knoxville Fire and Rescue, Pleasantville Fire Department, Mercy Ambulance, Pleasantville Police Department, Melcher-Dallas Police Department and Iowa State Patrol assisted at the scene.
