A local educator says a budget proposal that passed the Iowa House on Wednesday will likely have a negative impact on early childhood education if it passes the Senate. The cuts are part of the the newly Republican-controlled House’s effort to reign in state spending. Becky Iddings, Director of the Pella Early Learning Center says the cuts not only limit the ability of families to send their kids to pre-school, but also the ability of the Center to attract the best and brightest teachers. She says that the effects of missing out on pre-school education might not be immediately noticed and added that children are our most precious resource and each budget cut makes it more difficult to provide the education and preparation they need.
