The husband of a Pella native is currently awaiting deployment to Iraq. U.S. Army Reserve Specialist Justin Roelofs, son-in-law of Glenn and Carol Matherly, is set to serve overseas in support of Operation New Dawn. New Dawn transistions and signifies a formal end to U.S. military combat operations in Iraq, and shifts the U.S. emphasis from a predomininately military role to a more civilian role. Roelofs is a civil affairs specialist with two years of military service and is a member of the 414th Civil Affairs Battalion based in Southfield, Michigan.
