The Knoxville Police Department responded to a report of a dog fight inside a home on South Attica Road at approximately 6:16pm Sunday. Police Chief Dan Losada says officers arrived on the scene they were able to get everyone out of the house, though a woman in the home who tried to separate the two pit bulls suffered a severe injury on her foot and was taken to Knoxville Hospital and Clinics for treatment. The officers were eventually able to dart the dogs with their tranquilizer gun and stood by until the male owner of the animals arrived. The dogs were then turned over to the man and taken to a vet clinic in Des Moines for treatment.

Losada says the city will be holding a hearing later this week to decide if the dogs are “dangerous animals” as defined by the City Code. If City officials determine they are dangerous the must be removed from the City limits or destroyed.

Losada says if an animal attacks it is important for people to protect themselves first. He encourages residents to get away as quickly as possibly by either trapping the animal in a room by itself or leaving the area.
