The Pella Police Department stayed busy in 2010. Calls for service increased by 7% to 6,428. There were 52 more accidents than the previous year, an increase of 18%. The two most common crimes reported to the Department last year were larceny and destruction of property. Pella Police Liuetenent John Van Haaften says the increase in calls for service is a reflection of the community’s understanding of the services the Police Department provides. Van Haaften says that calls for service are any call to the department requesting police response, not just calls about accidents or crimes.
