A harmful odorless and tasteless gas could be lurking in your home or business and unless you test for it, you won’t know it’s there until it makes someone sick.
January is National Radon Action Month and the Marion County Public Heath Department has a limited supply of free test kits available while supplies last. Radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer in the U.S. and contributes to an estimated 20,000 deaths each year. Marion County Environmental Health Director Cory Frank says the local area has tested relatively high for radon in the past and it’s important to check for it, especially for homes that have a basement.

For more information or to obtain a test kit call the Marion County Environmental Health Department at 828-2246.
