Points were hard to come by for the Central College men’s basketball team on Tuesday night, as they were defeated 64-44 by Dubuque in the opening round of the Iowa Conference Tournament.  The Dutch shot just 31.1 percent from the floor, including 15 percent from 3-point range, as the Spartans quickly snuffed out Central’s defense of their conference tournament title.

The Dutch also committed 22 turnovers, while Dubuque gave up the ball just 11 times and managed to convert on nearly 45 percent of their shots.

Central also failed to place a player in double figures, as leading scorer Demarco Turner was held to only 9 points, along with fellow senior James Chapline.

After graduating all five starters from last year’s top team in the league, the Central men finish the 2010-2011 season in a tie for fourth place with a 12-13 overall record.
