With warmer temperatures predicted for much of the week, it becomes increasingly unsafe to be out on area lakes. Marion County Conservation officer Ken Kenyon recommends that people avoid stepping into ice, as some area streams and lakes already have water on the surface. He says dark spots on in the ice indicate honeycombing beneath the surface and weak ice. If temperatures remain above freezing, Kenyon says ice could begin breaking up as soon as Thursday this week.
