While the snow on the ground does not make one think of Little League Baseball…the Knoxville Little League is getting things together for the 2011 season. On rule change that was announced by the Little League this season is a moratorium on composite bats. Knoxville Little League Board member Tim McClung says the concern by the Little League in general was that the composite barrel bats had a greater advantage than a standard bat and the ball came off the bat with greater force which created a risk of severe injury to the players. McClung ads that in some cases, there may be exceptions made, however he says the Knoxville Little League has decided to ban all composite bats for the 2011 season. He says when purchasing or inspecting their child’s bats look for a league approved barrel bat. He adds most sporting good stores sell the legal bats.
