A Knoxville police officer was injured on duty yesterday afternoon while trying to assist staff at Northstar Elementary. Chief Dan Losada tells KNIA/KRLS news an officer was called to Northstar around 2:20pm yesterday to help staff deal with a student who had fled the building. The student was located and the officer was trying to escort the struggling student back to the school when they slipped on some ice and fell. Losada says the officer hurt their knee and was taken via ambulance to the Knoxville Hospital and Clinics emergency room for treatment. He says no bones were broken but the officer will be out of work for several days until additional testing can be completed.

KNIA/KRLS news contacted Northstar Principal John Keitges to get more information on the incident. At which time we were informed that any incident involving their students was confidential and he was unable to comment.
