The Pella Christian girls earned a trip to the second round in the Class 2A Regional Tournament Saturday night with a 71-39 victory over Pekin.

The Lady Eagles were slow out of the gates, trailing by one after the first quarter in a game that was broadcast live on 92.1 FM KRLS. The second quarter belonged to PC as they struck first to regain the lead and outscored Pekin 25-4. The Lady Eagles had a 35-15 advantage at the half and never looked back.

Pella Christian looked great in the second half, forcing turnovers, moving the ball and getting 9 girls into the scoring column. The Lady Eagles, unofficially, committed just 11 turnovers while forcing 23.

Leading the Lady Eagles were Renae DeBruin and Tayler Stursma with 13 points each. Paige Engbers had 11 and Cali Vink added 10 of her own.

With the win, Pella Christian is 17-4 on the year, and will travel to Packwood on Tuesday night to take on the winner of Highland/Mid-Prairie. You can hear that game on 92.1 FM KRLS and kniakrls.com. Catch the pregame at 6:45 PM with Eric Gotschall.
