On Wednesday, at approx. 12:05 a.m., the Monroe Police Dept. stopped a vehicle, on U.S. Hwy. 163, driven by Larry Lee Landgrebe Jr. of Newton. A passenger in the vehicle was identified as Aubrey Arnold Bailey III, also of Newton. At the time of the traffic stop the two subjects had in their possession 13 hogs with a market value of $2,408. The two subjects stated they were taking the hogs to a local sale barn to sell but couldn’t clearly state where they obtained the hogs.
Knowing the Marion County Sheriff’s Office was conducting an open investigation on recent hog thefts, in Marion County, the officer made contact with Marion County dispatch who had Deputies responded to the scene. The investigation showed Bailey and Landgrebe, who were suspects in previous thefts, unlawfully obtained the hogs and were stopped shortly after the crime occurred.
Upon further investigation the Marion County Sheriff’s Office was able to obtain evidence leading to the arrest of both subjects for the theft of the hogs. Additional evidence also lead to Mr. Bailey being charged for a previous hog theft, which occurred on February 5th of this year, in Marion County. The market value of this previous theft totaled $3,788.
As a result of the investigation Aubrey A. Bailey III is charged with one count of burglary in the second degree, one count of burglary in the third degree, and two counts of theft in the second degree. Larry Lee Landgrebe Jr. is charged with one count of burglary in the second degree and one count of theft in the second degree. Both subjects are currently being held in the Marion County Jail on $15,000 bond each.
This case still remains under investigation by the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, Jasper County Sheriff’s Office and the Monroe Police Dept. Any and all charges are merely an accusation until proven guilty in a court of law.
