Despite a heavy snow pack in Upper parts of the Des Moines river basin, no significant flooding is expected in Marion County. State Climatologist Harry Hillaker says the level of the river in our area is typical, currently around 4 feet below a flood stage of about 11 feet. Hillaker says this time of year, a flood forecast of greater than two weeks isn’t very accurate, but he doesn’t expect any significant precipitation to contribute to any early spring flooding.
