It’s time once again to “spring ahead” to Daylight Saving Time. At 2am Sunday clocks will spring ahead one hour. The purpose of Daylight Saving Time was to save energy for war production during World War I by taking advantage of the later hours of daylight in April through October. It was moved up an entire month in 2007 when then-President George W. Bush enacted the Energy Policy Act of 2005, which aimed to use the extra hour of daylight in the evening as a way to reduce the usage of artificial lighting.

In addition to setting your clocks ahead an hour before going to sleep tonight, residents are also encouraged to change the batteries in their smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors.
