Less Road Salt, Fewer Potholes Reflect Mild Winter

Another winter is almost in the books, and Pella Public Works Director Denny Buyert says this one was a little less intense than the last few. Buyert says his crews worked to keep streets clear after eight winter events. He says this number is down from 16 to 18 over the past few years. Buyert says a good barometer to measure the severity of the season is looking at how much salt was used. Public Works went through about 200 tons of salt, about half the amount of average years. He says the mild winter was also a littler easier on the streets, as repair crews have used about 25 tons of material to fill in winter pot holes, a significant reduction from past years.
