Crews have begun pruning the linden trees around town. Josh Vermeer with the Pella Nursery says with pneumatic trimmers, they can prune the trees of about two city blocks in a day.

He says the purpose of pruning them is to keep the root structure small, which in turn prevents the tree from becoming too big and keeps them healthy.
