The Iowa legislature continues to discuss whether or not to allow nuclear energy in Iowa. Senate Minority Leader Paul McKinley says after the earthquake and tsunami in Japan earlier this month, those who are against adding nuclear power plants in the state are attempting to use that incident to their advantage. McKinley says the legislature’s discussion on the topic will only be to study the options and evaluate the pros and cons. The Republican Senator says he’s believes they need to continue to study nuclear energy options as Iowa does not have enough electric generation and with the new administration in DC wanting to outlaw coal fired base load electric generation there is only one other option, nuclear.
