Another annual event signaling the approach of Tulip Time is the Klompen Classic. This is the 18th year for one of the biggest 5-K races in the state that last year saw more than 2,000 runners, only 50 short of being the largest 5-K in Iowa. Julie Johnson, race coordinator for the Klompen says there are some important changes for this year’s race. This year, the Kid’s Classic, the race that preceeds the Klompen, requires that all children must register with a release form signed by a parent. Johnson says it’s important that people take some extra time and arrive at the race early this year if they’ll be signing a release then.
