The Pella Christian girls’ thrilling fourth quarter comeback stalled out in overtime, as the Lady Eagles fell to Estherville-Lincoln Central 61-51 in Tuesday’s Class 2-A State Quarterfinal in Des Moines.
Pella Christian trailed by four points entering the game’s final period, but managed to claw their way back and take the lead with less than a minute remaining, before the Midgets tied the game and held the Eagles without a shot in the closing seconds of regulation.

The extra session didn’t treat the Lady Eagles much better, as Estherville-Lincoln Central jumped out to a quick four point advantage and forced the Lady Eagles into 0-for-7 shooting as they tried to play catch-up.  The Midgets knocked down six consecutive free throws to close out the game and preserve a 10-point win.

Pella Christian’s Tayler Stursma came off the bench to lead the Lady Eagles with 16 points and 9 rebounds, while Jasmin Schelhaas added 14.  Allie Sievert led Estherville-Lincoln Central with 20 points in the win.

The Pella Christian girls finish the season with a 20-5 record overall.  Estherville-Lincoln Central advances to face Roland-Story in Thursday’s 2-A Semifinals.
