Pella Corporation is currently working with the Environmental Protection Agency to perform an environmental investigation at their manufacturing facility in Pella.

The investigation is being conducted as a standard regulatory practice to ensure protection of human and environmental health.

The investigation will satisfy the requirements of the federal Resource Conservation and Recovery Act, or RCRA which gives the EPA authority to control hazardous waste from “cradle-to-grave” according to the EPA’s website.

Pella spokesperson Kathy Krafka-Harkema says the investigation will look at things like facility history, sampling around the facility and where chemicals have traditionally been stored. After those tests are reviewed, the EPA and Pella Corp will determine if any other work or cleaning is necessary.
