In an effort to bring awareness to traffic safety and responsibility, area law enforcement will be participating in the sTEP program next week. The purpose of the special Traffic Enforcement Program is to bring awareness to safety issues, especially the need to wear safety belts. Pella Police Officer Paul Haase says that more than 75% of traffic fatalities in January involved a passenger or driver not wearing a seat belt. The enforcement program will be in effect March 17th through March 20th and officers will be on the lookout for seat belt violations, speeders and drivers under the influence.
