Though temperatures in the 30s and rain turning to snow were not the weather conditions the Central baseball team had hoped for in their season-opener, the Dutch were still able to find enough offense for a 5-3 win over Carleton College.

The game was played in Jacksonville, Illinois, and was scheduled as a doubleheader, but field conditions cancelled the second game.  Still, Dutch pitcher Joel Pulliam was impressive on the hill for Central; striking out 13 batters and walking only three to hold the Knights scoreless in six-and-two-thirds innings of work.

Freshman Michael Jontz would earn the win, though, as he threw just over an inning of relief while the Dutch rallied for four runs in the eighth inning for the win.  Closer D.J. Glasgow earned the save for Central.

With the weather revising the schedule, Central will now face Augsburg College at 1:00 p.m. this afternoon on an adjacent field.
