The Iowa Senate passed a resolution in regards to the future enhanced use lease of the Knoxville VA campus Thursday morning. Senate resolution 8 states the General Assembly of the State of Iowa urges the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs to thoroughly consider all proposals and take those actions necessary to support the proposal which best serves the veterans of our nation.

Senator Paul McKinley tells KNIA/KRLS the Rules and Administration Committee passed the resolution in a meeting early Thursday before it was unanimously passed in the Senate.

McKinley says the resolution supports future use of the campus but does not give favoritism to any one proposal. He says the resolution has full support of Mayor Don Zoutte and other Knoxville officials and he commends the hard work and diligence of City and County leaders as well as concerned citizens who helped put together the updated resolution.

Zoutte tells KNIA/KRLS news he believes it is a great resolution and will be even happier once it passes through the House, which he expects to happen tomorrow. He says he backs the resolution 100% and thinks it’s more appropriate as it does not show support of any one specific proposal.

Zoutte says he’s spoke with Representative Jim Van Engelenhoven who plans to help push the updated resolution through the House.

Upon passage of the resolution, a copy is being immediately sent to U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Secretary Eric Shinseki.
