The Central College softball team rocked Wisconsin-Eau Claire 11-1 Saturday, but saw their 23-game win streak come to an end as the Bluegolds came back to take the nightcap 8-5. The 23 consecutive wins was the second longest run in Central history.
The Dutch outslugged Eau Claire 13-4 in the opener, backing up pitcher Kiley Lythberg; who improved to 10-1 on the season with an eight strikeout, complete-game performance.
Offensively, left fielder Emily Te Brink highlighted the offensive fireworks, as she became the fifth player in school history to homer twice in one game. Lythberg also added a home run of her own in the win.
In game two, the Dutch held a 5-2 lead midway through the sixth inning, but the Bluegolds exploded for a two-out, six-run rally to go on top and held Central out in the seventh to earn the win.
Central is now 23-3 overall and will face a Simpson College squad that is also unbeaten in the Iowa Conference on Tuesday in Indianola.
