The Central College men’s track and field squad is in the top five Division III U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association outdoor power rankings for the fourth straight week. The Dutch are No. 5 after previously holding the No. 4 spot.
Meanwhile the women’s squad dropped two notches to No. 7, staying in the top ten for the third consecutive week.
Playing host to the Central Open last Thursday, the men won six events and the women five. No team scores were kept. Junior Morgan Darrow (Newell, Storm Lake HS) broke her own school record in the hammer throw with a winning toss of 165 feet, three inches. She improved her NCAA-provisional qualifying mark and previous best by almost a foot.
For the fifth straight week Kyle Wood (junior, Newton) received Iowa Conference men’s outdoor track and field athlete of the week honors in track events and Matt Graber (senior, Newton) was tabbed the league’s field athlete for the second time this season.
A partial Central squad will compete in the multi-event competition at the Drake Relays Wednesday in Des Moines. The rest of the Dutch will travel to the Kip Janvrin Open at Simpson College Thursday in Indianola.
