Local runners fared well at this weekend’s Gene Van Wyk Memorial 5K run. Four of the five top spots in the overall women’s category were filled by Pella residents, with Lisa Vermeer turning in the quickest time of 22:16, followed by Lacey Beenken of Bancroft and Sarah Brandsen, Amy Branderhorst and Lisa Lensing, all of Pella On the men’s side, Louis Pelsang of Iowa City took first place with a time of 17:27. He was followed by Darin Schunkneckt and Michael Schemm, both of Pella, Ed Tormeg of Indianola and Jake Lensing, also from Pella. Here’s the full list of times ^[1].
