Morel mushroom season is here. More than one confirmed report of the annual fungi has been cited in the area. Former Central College Biology Professor Donald Huffman has spent a career researching mushrooms. He says the prized morels typically turn up in areas where the soil has been disturbed, either by fire, uprooted trees or in other ways. He says the simple act of being outdoors is what attracts most people to hunting morels, and of course the tasty fruits of the labor.
