There is just one week left for residents to file their 2010 income taxes without penalty. Typically Tax Day is April 15th though this year, tax payers get a few extra days to file, and it’s not because of any sort of government shut down. This year’s Emancipation Day, a little known holiday in Washington D.C. that celebrates the freeing of the slaves in the district, falls on Saturday April 16th. Therefore, the holiday will be observed on Friday the 15th, which caused the IRS to extend the filing deadline to Monday April 18th.
Though extensions are available for those who need more time to prepare their taxes, Certified Public Accountant Don Croghan says those who owe taxes must take care of that by the deadline.
