The Pella girls soccer team heads to Des Moines today to take on some of the top teams in the  metro league in a tournament at Urbandale.  The Lady Dutch will begin the day against Ankeny, before taking on Des Moines East and then finishing the day with the hosting Jayhawks.  Pella Head Coach Sam Mate-Kodjo says he likes playing a tough tournament like today’s, especially early in the season.

“It’s a really good tournament for us.  I think [with] the way the regions are organized this year is going to make it a good tournament,” says Mate-Kodjo.  “And it comes at the beginning of the season, so it gives us the chance to adjust and makes some changes to fill up some gaps or maybe be more efficient on the offensive end.”

Mate-Kodjo says his squad has been able to pick up wins against Des Moines East before, but Ankeny and Urbandale have had his team’s number in the last several meetings.  The Pella girls soccer team is 2-1 overall this season.
