The Pella High girls and boys soccer teams both open up active weeks today as the two squads will play three games this week against the same three teams. Both teams open ramp up competition in the Little Hawkeye Conference today with games against Norwalk, and Pella Girls Soccer Coach Sam Mate-Kodjo says while his team is confident, they also realize that the Lady Warriors will give them their best shot.
“We think we’ve got it in us to win – and we’re gonna play for the win – but Norwalk always gives us a good game,” says Mate-Kodjo.
The Pella girls are at home today, while the boys are at Norwalk. Little Dutch Head Coach Mark Solomon says while his boys have been playing strong defense lately, he wants them to step up their emphasis on the offensive end – starting today against the Warriors.
“The only issue that we’ve recognized time-in and time-out – especially in the challenging games that we’ve had – is just the inability to finish our opportunities [to score],” said Solomon. “If we’re able to do that – for all of the opportunities that we create – it’s going to be really hard to beat us.”
Following today’s contests, the Pella soccer teams will be playing Knoxville on Thursday, followed by Pella Christian on Friday.
