The Central College baseball team took Wartburg to 11 innings, but couldn’t come away with the win, as they fell 6-5 to the Knights in the opening round of the Iowa Conference baseball tournament Thursday in Cedar Rapids.
The sixth-seeded Dutch overcame a two-run deficit in the eighth inning to tie the game, with the two teams playing to a standstill for the next two innings before Wartburg capitalized on an error by the Dutch to score the game-winning run on a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the 11th.
Central will fight to keep their season alive in an elimination game this morning against fifth-seeded Luther College.  The two teams faced each other to end the regular season, with Central winning the nine-inning contest before Luther swept the following doubleheader.
