The Central College and Luther baseball teams entered Saturday’s conference finale jockeying for the final two seeds in the league tournament.  The Norse controlled their own fate, sweeping the doubleheader 13-1 and 5-1 to leave the Dutch to carry the No. 6 seed into the tourney.
Central picked up eight hits in the opener and five more in the nightcap, but Luther’s pitching found ways to continually shot down scoring opportunities for the Dutch.  Luther’s offense, however, jumped out early in both games, scoring three runs in the first inning of game one and putting up four more in the opening frame of the nightcap.
With the losses, Central finishes the regular season with a 22-17 overall record and 12-12 in the Iowa Conference.  Coe College claimed the league crown with an 18-6 conference record.  The Iowa Conference baseball tournament begins on Thursday in Cedar Rapids.
