Though they finished well in the team standings, the Pella Christian boys track and field team secured just one automatic berth into the State Track Meet during Thursday night’s District meet at Eddyville-Blakesburg. Skyler Giddings logged a 2 minute, 1 second time in the 800 meters to claim the only gold medal for the Eagles, who finished the meet in second place in the team standings with 90.25 points.
The Pella Christian boys are hoping for more qualifiers for the State Meet, though, as they also had several second and third place finishes at the meet. Claiming silver were Derek Van Kooten in the long jump (20′ 3″), Nate Tvedt in the 100 meter dash, Giddings in the 1600 meter run, and the Eagles 4×100 meter relay team.
They also placed third in the 4×200, 4×400, 4×800 and 1600 Meter Medley Relays, which have an outside shot at qualifying as well.
